Then I pointed out that America does indeed have many social programs (in reponse to the last line on a badge that state that socialism sucks). Then I stated that civil rights are for everyone, not just for some (in response to marriage being between a man and a woman).

Needless to say, some serious crap hit the fan and a parent of a former student totally attacked me (and she's not even my FB friend).

Maybe I got the response I was seeking. After all, it's fun to ruffle a few feathers every now and again. It starts with simple thing like e.g. I didn't forget to call on your birthday I just was at a company retreat and had no cell signal.

An error most people make, no matter if it is everyday Joe, politicians or whatever is to decide for people what they can handle or not, as you have stated JD. Politicians tell us all the time things like "national security" etc. But the question should be: Who are they to decide for us what we can handle?

There are a lot of people who consider not knowing a blessing and then there is people like me who are curious beyond their own good. :)

So yes, sometimes bending the truth is a neccessary evil for all of us, but what we shouldn't forget is the attitude of the person across from us. Does this person want to know and doesn't he? Because that is when we can show this person respect and care. It is only then that we do what is best for this person and not what is best for us. So do I tell him I forgot his birthday and does he prefer the kind lie?

That is the question!Maria Lorcahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13254319722977476668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678028814594418369.post-12168757763937832572012-05-18T08:43:30.577+02:002012-05-18T08:43:30.577+02:00Thanks for the comment Maria. The message isn't so much in the words as in the interpretation - the Bible being a classic example (a patchwork quilt of views or interpretations of stuff that happened eons ago first translated and then interpreted by others in countless languages and stitched together for the masses to decipher...it's mind-boggling how people just buy that stuff!), but there lies the ongoing fascination with history and the search for the truth...and it does sell! : ) J.D.J.D. As a history stude...Great post and absolutely true! As a history student I found this particularly interesting. We need to be aware that as long as there is no time travel (the little nerd in me just wrote that) we will only find an approach to history but never an exact pictre and the further back we go, the larger the gap is to reality. Consider also the development of language and the alteration to the meaning of certrain words. Even over such a short period as 10 years a word's meaning can change significantly, so without the input of a living person we might be lost there. Take for instance the word "gay". While now is refers clearly to "homosexual" a few decades back it basically just meant "happy".Maria Lorcahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13254319722977476668noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2678028814594418369.post-73162322867654848922012-05-17T21:59:54.148+02:002012-05-17T21:59:54.148+02:00Hi Lorena.
